Choose a task
This dialog lets you start a new activity or switch from the current one: set the start time, then pick a task (optionally linked to a ticket) from the list.
The task / work document labels (and their plurals) can vary with your workspace settings. The interface shows the labels configured for the workspace.

Prerequisites
- You must be signed in to Sequentia (not as a guest account).
- A workspace must be selected.
- You need work documents you belong to (as a document member), with at least one non-archived task — otherwise the list may be empty (No work document available).
- To start: no activity currently running (otherwise Start an Activity does not appear in the Tools panel).
- To switch: a running (unended) activity that is not invoiced.
This dialog does not check permission to manage timesheets itself. From the activity log, Change activity only appears if you have that permission and the activity is not invoiced. From the Tools time tracker, start / switch do not depend on that permission currently — see To confirm with product.
Open the dialog
From the Tools panel (time tracker)
- On a page where the Tools menu is available (boards, timesheets, work documents, etc.), open the side Tools panel (edge strip / timer control).
- Depending on your situation:
- No running activity → Start an Activity.
- Running activity → Change activity.
- The Choose a task dialog opens.

From the activity log
From some views (timesheet, work document, ticket info, etc.), the activity log can show Stop and Change activity under a still running, non-invoiced activity — if you have permission to manage timesheets.

Dialog contents
Header
- Title: Choose a task (the interface may show a different English label — see To confirm with product).
- Help (?) icon: opens help for this dialog.
- Close (X) icon: closes without starting or switching.
Start time
Once the allowed range is ready, a Start Time control appears.
- You only set the start: the implicit end is now (the end-time control is hidden in this dialog).
- The time cannot be in the future.
- New activity: start cannot be earlier than the end of your last completed activity (hint: “Set the start time (end is now). It cannot be earlier than the end of your last logged activity.”).
- Switching activity: start cannot be earlier than the current activity’s start (nor outside the free gap between neighboring activities).

Context under the time control
| Situation | Display |
|---|---|
| New activity | New Activity note + start-time hint |
| Switching activity | Current activity name (document · task or ticket) + elapsed duration updated every second |
Task list
The picker provides:
- A search bar (placeholder Search tasks).
- Three tabs:
- Recent — up to five tasks from your latest activities (empty: No recent tasks).
- Favorite — starred tasks for this workspace (empty: No favorite tasks).
- Work documents (workspace plural label) — documents grouped by client, with document status; loads more as you scroll.
Clicking a task:
- immediately starts or switches to that task (no separate Confirm button);
- may attach the ticket linked to the line, if any;
- often shows Click to start in the documents view.
The star icon (filled or outline) adds or removes the task from favorites without closing the dialog.
Only documents you are a member of appear, except the current activity’s document, which stays visible even if you are no longer listed on it.

Confirm or close
| Action | Effect |
|---|---|
| Click a task | Closes the dialog and applies the choice: starts a new activity, or ends the current one at the chosen time and starts the next. |
| Close (X) | Cancels: nothing is started; when switching, the running activity resumes in the Tools panel. |
| Help (?) | Opens contextual help. |
What this dialog does not do
- Stop an activity without starting another: use Stop in the Tools panel or activity log.
- Edit a completed activity (times, note, attachment): activity edit flow.
- Create a work document or task: elsewhere in the app (work documents).
- Pick equipment in this dialog: no equipment picker is present on the current screen.
In-app help
In the dialog header, the help icon opens contextual help. Help title: Help - Choose a task.
To confirm with product
- The Tools panel allows start / switch without checking permission to manage timesheets, while the activity log hides Change activity without that permission. Confirm whether personal tracking should also require it.
- Labels related to ticket or equipment choice still exist in translations but are no longer used on the current screen. Confirm cleanup or a restored equipment / ticket flow.
- When grouping by document, a missing client name is shown in hard-coded French (Sans client) rather than translated. Confirm bilingual alignment.
- The English dialog title is Choose a Line Task while French says Choisir une tâche. Confirm alignment (and whether workspace custom labels should appear in the title).
